RESOURCES

Below, you will find a list of resources that will support social and emotional learning at your school. Some of these are free while others are potential options on which your school can spend the grant funds. This list is by no means exhaustive, nor are you restricted to select a program from here when deciding how to spend your grant money. We encourage you to be creative when selecting how you will spend the funds. If you have any suggestions of organizations that should be added to either list please let us know.

 

Free Resources

This section lists organizations and websites that offer free resources for educators. This includes general information about social and emotional learning, lesson plans that can be customized for your classroom, videos for you and your students, and discussion board for you to connect with other educators.

 

CASEL

CASEL publishes research and information about social and emotional learning that can supplement professional development for teachers and staff.

 

Edutopia

www.edutopia.org

Edutopia is a host for several avenues of information on social and emotional learning, including research, lesson plans, discussion boards, and videos. 

 

KindSpring

www.kindspring.org 

KindSpring offers a collection of ways you can be kind to others every day, as well as stories of kindness, respect, and love that could be used in classroom activities. 

 

Random Acts of Kindness

Random Acts of Kindness offers lesson plans, kindness ideas, and other resources that encourage students to be kind.  

 

Making Caring Common

Making Caring Common has created adaptable strategy guides and resources to help focus conversations with students around developing caring and inclusive school communities.  

 

 

We have also aggregated a list of organizations that offer programs and resources within the social and emotional learning field. Character.org

In addition to their free lesson plans, Character.org offers a variety of archived webinars on social and emotional learning ($49), and they host the National Forum on Character Education, a two-day conference for educators (registration costs $250 - $550).

 
The Center for The
Collaborative Classroom

Alongside their free videos for teachers,
The Center for the Collaborative Classroom 
also has Caring School Community products 
for sale, such as read-aloud values books
designed to work together to build community
in your classroom and across the school
($70 - $250).

 

The Hawn Foundation

The Hawn Foundation has created the MindUPâ„¢ curriculum, which teaches social and emotional learning skills that link cognitive neuroscience, positive psychology, and mindful awareness training utilizing a brain centric approach ($18.74).

 

Giraffe Heroes Project

Giraffe Heroes Project provides a database of real heroes and classroom materials for free, and schools can purchase the Giraffe Heroes Kit. Speakers are also available upon request.

 

Kindness Foundation

Kindness Foundation sells a series of toolkits on subjects such as compassion, respect, and self-awareness, that improve students' understanding of the power of individual words and actions in the creation of a positive, accepting, safe, and kind school culture ($10 for one kit, $40 for a school bundle).

 

LifeVest Inside

LifeVest Inside offers a curriculum that provides a framework for creating immersive experiences using critical thinking skills focused on kindness ($120). Speakers are also available upon request.

 

Playworks

www.playworks.org

Playworks offers a free game "library," and can supply schools with a Playworks Coach, Playworks TeamUp collaboration, and Playworks Pro consultations to improve recess so that every kid on the playground feels included, is active, and builds valuable social and emotional skills.

 

Mindful Schools

Mindful Schools provides two online courses that both support the development of a mindfulness practice for teachers and helps them bring this practice to their students ($75 - $275 through a 50% discount for Riley's Way Program partners. Please let us know if you want to pursue this option so we can provide our contact's information).

 

Responsive Classroom

In addition to articles and blog posts for educators, Responsive Classroom offers a range of services for schools and districts, including on-site and off-site trainings, consultation, coaching,
and resources.

 

Project Happiness

Project Happiness offers information about social and emotional learning as well as a nine lesson series that teachesskills that influence the happiness and develop SEL competencies for elementary school-age children ($97 - $377).

 

Ruler

Provided through the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, RULER is a two year program that grounds teachers, staff, students, and families in the anchors of Emotional Intelligence ($1200 - $1800 per student).

 

Youth Frontiers

Youth Frontiers offers one-day retreats on values like kindness, courage, respect and responsibility for students in 4th–12th grades, as well as educator retreats to help schools support their educators ($3,145 - $3,745).

 

Responsive Classroom
